Terms of Use
Effective October 11, 2026
FilmCounter ("the Service") is a free footage counter for motion picture film, available at app.filmcounter.app, developed and operated by William Hecht, a sole proprietor ("Operator", "we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms.
1. What FilmCounter does
FilmCounter estimates how much film has been exposed by timing each take between when you press RUN and when you press STOP, and converting that time to footage from the format and frame rate you select. Its results are only as accurate as the timing and the settings you enter. It does not connect to or read from your camera.
2. Use it as a reference
FilmCounter is a reference tool. When your camera or magazine has a working footage counter, that counter is the authority. You are responsible for checking footage before relying on it for loading, reporting, ordering stock or any other production decision.
3. Free, as is
The Service is free and is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and uninterrupted availability. We may change, suspend or discontinue the Service at any time.
4. Your data
Your data is stored only on your device (see the Privacy Policy). You are responsible for keeping any records you need, such as by copying footage onto your camera reports. We cannot recover data lost from your device.
5. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of film, footage, production time, revenue or data, arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, including from an inaccurate count. Because the Service is free, our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to US $0, or the smallest amount permitted by law.
6. Acceptable use
Don't attempt to disrupt, overload or interfere with the Service or the infrastructure it runs on.
7. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any dispute relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California.
8. Changes
We may update these Terms. The updated version will be posted here with a new effective date, and continuing to use the Service means you accept it.
